Krishnendu Kalesh is an independent filmmaker and media professional. He has been working in mixed media platforms, primarily in India and Melbourne, Australia. Krishnendu Kalesh has graduated in Computer Science, and also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Media Production and a Diploma in Graphic Design. Since 2003, he has held many roles in the field of digital filmmaking, documentary production, graphic design, photography, film workshops, editing, and screenwriting.

He directed his neo-noir short film “Karinchathan” in 2017, which won Best Film & Director awards at the FEFKA film awards. His feature film debut, “Prappeda/Hawk’s Muffin” premiered at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2022, is an experimental fantasy drama set in a random dystopian future, exploring multiple themes. It also participated in Moscow IFF, Dhaka IFF, IFFK, etc. Krishnendu Kalesh bagged the 2021 Kerala State Film Awards for the Best Debut Director for his feature ‘Prappeda/ Hawk’s Muffin’.

He debuted in direction with movie “Winter”, but as the release was late due to many reasons, his first movie came in theatre was in 2008 with the Dileep starrer Crazy Gopalan. Prior to becoming an independent filmmaker, Deepu apprenticed as an assistant director under Priyadarshan. His first released film was in 2008, the thriller comedy Crazy Gopalan starring Dileep in the titular role. The movie opened to commercial success. His first made film horror thriller “Winter” with Jayaram in the lead was released subsequently. His third film was comedy entertainer Teja Bhai and Family starring Prithviraj in the lead, released in 2011 to commercial success. He directed Mammootty in the 2015 thriller Fireman, which was a success critically and commercially. His 5th movie Karinkunnam 6s, a sports movie with Manju Warrier in the lead, was released in 2016.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

He completed B-Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Anna University Chennai & completed Diploma in Sound Engineering from Sound Engineering Academy(SEA). His career started as Sound Recording Engineer at Sreemovies. After that he was worked as Sound Engineer in Kaumudy TV. In 2019 he joined L V Prasad College of Media Studies Trivandrum as Sound Engineer. His second feature film(Sound Design), MANHOLE- won two state awards for best director as well as for best film. He worked as the Sound designer for Lenin Rajendran in the anthology film Cross road.

He was the sound recordist for the film Kottayam which premiered at IFFK 2018.

He worked as music composer for the film paka, the film premiered at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival in Discovery Section. At the Institute he picked his lessons from the legendary film maker Mani Kaul. Sanju has done a brief stint as a teacher of Film Direction and Screenwriting at the KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, Kottayam , Kerala. His documentary on Kutiyattam, Kapila won the National award for the best documentary. Sanju’s first feature film, Aedan- Garden of Desire won Rajathachakoram award for the best debut director and the FIPRESCI award for the best Malayalam film.

He has edited non-fiction programs and promos for different Government agencies like I&PRD and he was part of the Visual Communication Team for Sutharaya Keralam. He made his directorial debut with the critically and commercially successful Malayalam feature film ‘Luca’ staring Tovino Thomas (2019). He has also produced, scripted, photographed and directed an indie Tamil feature film titled ‘Alaiyin Thisai’.

He has also won State Television Award for his works. He has been working in C-Dit as Deputy Director since 1990, and teaching visual media in and outside Kerala.
