Indranil Chakrabarty is Professor and HOD of Screen Writing & Screen Culture at LVPA. After completing BSc (Hons) in Statistics from Presidency College (Calcutta), he received a scholarship to study film direction and screenwriting at Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (International Film & TV School) in Havana (Cuba). He did his PhD (Creative Practice – Screenwriting) from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Indranil has made short fiction films, documentaries and has authored several literary/ film fictional works. He was Professor of Screenwriting as well as Film Appreciation at Whistling Woods International (2006-2013), FTII (2013-2015) and has lectured at several universities around the world. Among his publications, The New Latin American Cinema (1998) is still used as a reference text in the MA (Film Studies) courses in India. Other books include India’s Audiovisual Market: An Analysis (2004) and has co-edited an anthology of literary criticism in Spanish, Redescubriendo a Tagore (“Rediscovering Tagore”, Sahitya Akademi, 2011). He was Project Coordinator of the European Union-India Screenwriting Programme (1998-2000) and Convener of the First All-India Screenwriters’ Conference at FTII (2006). He writes and publishes in English, Bengali and Spanish.
